4 Secrets You Need to Replace Your Missing Teeth
In my dental practice I always noticed that some patients with few missing teeth never felt the urgency to replace them. They thought they can still eat food with remaining teeth in the mouth.
If you are one of them, let me explain why it is absolutely essential to replace missing teeth as soon as possible.
1. Your bite gets changed, as teeth meet with each other in a definite arrangement called normal bite. When one tooth or few teeth are missing, a gap is created. Surrounding teeth and opposing teeth start shifting to fill up the gap, resulting in crooked teeth that can lead to more serious problems.
2. It makes you more prone to get cavities and gum disease. As neighboring teeth start tilting towards the gap created by missing teeth, they become difficult to clean and collect more plaque. End result will be more cavities and gum disease.
3. For eating purposes, as with missing teeth you might be eating on one side of mouth only, called unilateral mastication. That means over use of one side and under use of other side will cause imbalance of chewing forces. Eating food is an exercise for teeth and has to be done equally on both sides.
4. For looks and smile, in case when missing teeth happen to be visible while you talk and smile. Beautiful teeth give pleasant smile and self confidence.
